Skull and Dagger (honor society)
Skull and Dagger is a co-educational honor society at the University of Pittsburgh. Founded in 1913, it recognizes students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship, and service to the university community. Unlike some secret societies, Skull and Dagger's membership and activities are generally publicly known within the university.
Membership in Skull and Dagger is typically by invitation extended to rising seniors. Selection criteria focus on a student's contributions to campus life, academic standing, and commitment to the values of the society. Members represent a diverse range of academic disciplines and extracurricular involvement.
The society's activities include supporting university initiatives, promoting leadership development among students, and organizing events that foster a sense of community. Skull and Dagger often works in collaboration with other student organizations and university departments on these endeavors.
While not shrouded in secrecy, Skull and Dagger maintains a degree of privacy regarding its internal operations and specific rituals. The society aims to provide a platform for student leaders to connect, collaborate, and contribute positively to the University of Pittsburgh. Alumni of Skull and Dagger often remain involved with the university and continue to support the society's mission.
