EUMETNET
EUMETNET is a collaborative network comprising the National Meteorological Services (NMSs) of most European countries. Its primary objective is to improve and harmonize meteorological observations, forecasting, and related services across Europe.
EUMETNET facilitates cooperation between its member NMSs to optimize resources, enhance the quality of meteorological information, and avoid duplication of effort. This is achieved through joint programs and projects covering areas such as observation networks, data processing, numerical weather prediction, climate monitoring, and research and development.
The organization is governed by a General Assembly composed of representatives from each member NMS. A Management Board oversees the implementation of EUMETNET’s strategy and activities. The operational work is carried out through a structure of Program and Project Management Teams.
EUMETNET aims to contribute to the safety of life and property, the protection of the environment, and the sustainable development of the European economy by providing reliable and consistent meteorological information and services to a wide range of users, including governments, businesses, and the public. It works closely with other international organizations, such as the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), to promote global cooperation in meteorology.
