Drive (band)
Drive was a short-lived American hard rock band formed in 1988, featuring vocalist Marc Ferrari, guitarist Doug Aldrich, bassist Jim Pilster (a.k.a. James Lomenzo), and drummer Vinnie Appice. The band released one self-titled album, Drive, in 1988 on RCA Records. The album received moderate attention for its melodic hard rock sound, reminiscent of bands like Whitesnake and Def Leppard.
Despite positive reviews and some modest radio airplay, Drive failed to achieve significant commercial success. Internal tensions and creative differences reportedly contributed to the band's dissolution shortly after the album's release.
Following the breakup of Drive, the members pursued various other projects. Marc Ferrari continued to work in the music industry, often focusing on television and film music. Doug Aldrich went on to greater success, playing guitar with bands such as Dio, Whitesnake, and The Dead Daisies. James Lomenzo joined White Lion and later played with Megadeth and other notable artists. Vinnie Appice continued to perform and record with numerous bands, including Black Sabbath (during the Dio era), Dio, and Last in Line.
Although Drive's lifespan was brief, their album remains a cult favorite among fans of late 1980s hard rock.
