Donald Sinclair (veterinary surgeon)

Donald Sinclair (1911-1995) was a British veterinary surgeon, best known as one of the inspirations for the character Siegfried Farnon in James Herriot's All Creatures Great and Small books. Sinclair practiced veterinary medicine in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, England, in partnership with his brother Brian Sinclair, who served as the model for Tristan Farnon.

While Herriot's portrayals were fictionalized, Sinclair was known for his eccentric and sometimes unpredictable personality. He was a skilled vet, but also prone to dramatic pronouncements and occasionally questionable decisions. He was also known to have a sharp wit and a strong sense of humor, qualities that were amplified in Herriot's fictional representation.

Sinclair continued to practice veterinary medicine for many years, and his legacy lives on through the popularity of the All Creatures Great and Small books and television adaptations, which have brought the world of rural veterinary practice to a global audience. He is remembered as a significant figure in the veterinary profession and a colorful character whose quirks contributed greatly to the success of Herriot's stories.
