Dishwalla
Dishwalla is an American alternative rock band formed in Santa Barbara, California, in 1993. The band is best known for their 1996 hit single "Counting Blue Cars," which reached number one on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart.
The original lineup consisted of J.R. Richards (vocals/guitar), Rodney Browning Cravens (lead guitar), Scot Alexander (bass), Pete Maloney (drums), and George Pendergast (guitar/keyboards). Richards served as the band's primary songwriter and frontman.
Dishwalla signed with A&M Records in 1994 and released their debut album, Pet Your Friends, in 1996. The album's success was largely driven by "Counting Blue Cars," which gained widespread airplay and helped the album achieve platinum certification.
The band released several subsequent albums, including And You Think You Know What Life's About (1998), Opaline (2002), and Juniper Road (2005). While none of these albums achieved the same level of mainstream success as their debut, Dishwalla maintained a loyal fanbase and continued to tour and record.
In 2017, J.R. Richards departed from the band. Dishwalla subsequently announced a new lineup featuring Justin Fox as the lead vocalist. They have since released new music and continue to perform live.
Dishwalla's music is characterized by its melodic rock sound, often incorporating elements of alternative rock and post-grunge. Their lyrics often explore themes of relationships, introspection, and personal growth. The band has been cited as an influence by numerous contemporary rock artists.
