21 Jump Street (film)

21 Jump Street is a 2012 American action comedy film directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, loosely based on the 1987–1991 television series of the same name. The film stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as two police officers, Morton Schmidt and Greg Jenko, who are forced to relive high school when they are assigned to go undercover as students to bust a drug ring operating within the school.

The film blends action, humor, and self-aware commentary on the buddy-cop genre and the source material itself. Schmidt, the academically inclined but awkward officer, and Jenko, the athletic but dim-witted officer, find their high school dynamics reversed as Schmidt finds popularity and Jenko struggles with advanced placement courses.

The plot centers on their attempts to uncover the source of a new synthetic drug called "HFS" (Holy Fucking Shit). Their investigation leads them through a series of comedic mishaps and action-packed confrontations with various students and drug dealers.

The film was a critical and commercial success, praised for its humor, the chemistry between Hill and Tatum, and its clever deconstruction of both the original television series and the high school movie genre. A sequel, 22 Jump Street, was released in 2014.
