KeePassX
KeePassX is a free and open-source password manager application. It is a community fork of KeePass, originally designed as a cross-platform alternative. KeePassX allows users to securely store multiple passwords in one database, which is locked with a master key or a key file. The database file is encrypted using strong encryption algorithms such as AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) or Twofish.
KeePassX offers a user interface for managing passwords and other sensitive information, such as usernames, URLs, and notes. It supports password generation, allowing users to create strong and unique passwords for different services. It also includes features like auto-type, which automatically fills in usernames and passwords into login forms.
KeePassX is cross-platform and available for operating systems like Linux, macOS, and Windows. It focuses on security, portability, and ease of use, providing a user-friendly solution for managing passwords in a secure manner. While no longer actively developed, its codebase serves as the foundation for KeePassXC, a more actively maintained fork with added features and security enhancements. The final release of KeePassX was version 2.0.3.
