The Cserhát is a mountain range in northern Hungary. It is part of the North Hungarian Mountains, specifically the Inner Western Carpathians. Geologically, it primarily consists of volcanic rocks, including andesite and tuff, formed during the Miocene epoch.
The Cserhát is characterized by rolling hills, forested areas, and fertile valleys. Its highest peak is Naszály, reaching a height of 654 meters. The region is relatively sparsely populated, with agriculture, forestry, and increasingly, tourism being the main economic activities.
Several small villages and towns are located in the Cserhát, known for their traditional architecture and rural charm. The area is popular for hiking, cycling, and other outdoor activities. The Börzsöny mountains lie to the west, separated from the Cserhát by the Ipoly river valley. The Gödöllő Hills are situated to the south.
