SM U-8 (Austria-Hungary)
SM U-8 was a U-boat of the Austro-Hungarian Navy during World War I. Constructed by Germaniawerft in Kiel, Germany, it was originally built for the German Kaiserliche Marine as U-7, but was sold to Austria-Hungary before completion. It was commissioned into the Austro-Hungarian Navy on 17 April 1915.
Primarily deployed in the Adriatic Sea, SM U-8 conducted several patrols targeting enemy shipping. The submarine achieved its most significant successes sinking several Allied vessels.
On 10 June 1916, SM U-8 was trapped in an anti-submarine net off the coast of Venice. After being located by the Italian destroyer Giuseppe Cesare Abba and the British patrol boat Cicala, it was sunk by depth charges. All 31 crew members perished.
