John Dobson (Northern Ireland politician)
John Dobson (born c. 1940) is a retired politician from Northern Ireland. He served as a Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for North Antrim from 1998 to 2011.
Dobson was a prominent figure within the DUP, known for his staunchly conservative and evangelical Christian views. He was a consistently vocal opponent of Sinn Féin and Irish republicanism. Before entering the Assembly, Dobson served as a long-standing councillor in Ballymena.
During his time in the Assembly, Dobson was a member of various committees, including the Environment Committee and the Agriculture and Rural Development Committee. He frequently contributed to debates on issues such as education, health, and social policy, often expressing opinions rooted in his religious beliefs.
Dobson did not seek re-election in the 2011 Assembly election, and subsequently retired from active politics. His departure marked the end of a significant period of representation for him and his political stance within the North Antrim constituency. While considered a controversial figure by some, he retained a loyal following amongst his constituents.
