Abdi Bile
Abdi Bile Abdi (Somali: Cabdi Bile Cabdi, Arabic: عبدي بيلي عبدي) (born December 28, 1962) is a Somali former middle-distance runner. He is Somalia's only World Champion in athletics.
Bile is best known for winning the 1500 meters at the 1987 World Championships in Rome, defeating among others, Steve Cram and José Luis González. His winning time was 3:36.80. He also finished sixth in the 1500m at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.
Bile competed in three Olympic Games: 1984 in Los Angeles, 1988 in Seoul, and 1996 in Atlanta. He served as the Chef de Mission for the Somali team at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
Bile holds the Somali national records for the 800 meters, 1000 meters, 1500 meters, and the mile. He is considered one of the greatest athletes to ever come from Somalia.
