Derek Bryant (baseball)
Derek Bryant (born November 12, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan) is a former professional baseball player. He was an outfielder and first baseman who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers during the 1970s.
Bryant was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the first round (11th overall) of the 1969 MLB draft. He made his major league debut with the Athletics in 1973, appearing in 5 games. He was traded to the Texas Rangers during the 1974 season and played there until 1976.
Bryant primarily played in the minor leagues throughout his career. He was known for his power hitting potential in the minors, but he was never able to establish himself as a regular player in the major leagues. After his playing career, he remained involved in baseball as a coach.
