Unforgiven (2018 film)
Unforgiven (2018) is a South Korean action thriller film directed by Lee Jong-pil. It stars Hwang Jung-min, So Ji-sub, and Kang Dong-won. The film is not a remake or direct sequel to Clint Eastwood's 1992 film of the same name, but shares a thematic resonance with the Western concerning the nature of forgiveness and violence.
The plot centers around a retired hitman (Hwang Jung-min) who is drawn back into the criminal underworld after a past incident resurfaces, forcing him to confront his violent past and the consequences of his actions. The film explores themes of redemption, betrayal, and the cyclical nature of violence. Critical reception was mixed, with some praising the performances and action sequences while others criticized the convoluted plot and pacing. While commercially successful in South Korea, the film received limited international distribution. The film's use of stylized violence and its exploration of morally ambiguous characters are frequently cited aspects of the film. Although sharing the title with the Clint Eastwood film, there is no narrative connection between the two.
