Dwernik

Dwernik is a former village in the Bieszczady Mountains of southeastern Poland. It is located within the administrative district of Gmina Lutowiska, in Lesko County, Subcarpathian Voivodeship.

Historically, Dwernik was inhabited by Boykos, a Carpatho-Ruthenian ethnic group. The village was abandoned and depopulated after World War II, primarily due to the forced resettlement of the local population during "Operation Vistula" in 1947, aimed at suppressing Ukrainian nationalist activity in the region.

Today, no traces of the original village remain above ground. The area is now part of the Bieszczady National Park and is primarily forest and meadowland. The name "Dwernik" is used for geographical features in the area, such as streams and hiking trails, and serves as a historical reference point. The area is sparsely populated, primarily by individuals involved in forestry, tourism, and conservation efforts related to the National Park. The history of Dwernik reflects the turbulent ethnic and political history of the Bieszczady region in the 20th century.
