OmniWeb
OmniWeb was a web browser originally developed by Omni Development, Inc. for the NeXTSTEP and later macOS operating systems. Known for its customizable interface and advanced features, it offered a different browsing experience compared to mainstream browsers.
Originally released in 1995, OmniWeb distinguished itself with features like drawers for managing bookmarks and history, customizable toolbars, and the ability to save workspaces. It also offered features for blocking advertisements and specifying the user agent string on a per-site basis, providing a level of control appreciated by power users.
OmniWeb used the WebKit rendering engine. Previously, it used the OpenStep framework and then the Cocoa framework, evolving alongside the changing technological landscape of Apple's operating systems.
Development on OmniWeb officially ceased, and it is no longer actively maintained. While once a prominent browser choice for Mac users, it has been superseded by other browsers with broader feature sets and ongoing support. Its legacy remains as a pioneering browser that emphasized customization and user control.
