Dirdal

Dirdal is a village and former municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the present-day municipality of Gjesdal.

History:

Dirdal was established as a municipality on 1 January 1902 when it was separated from the municipality of Gjesdal. At that time, Dirdal had a population of 611. During the 1960s, there were many municipal mergers across Norway as a result of the work of the Schei Committee. On 1 January 1965, the municipality of Dirdal was merged back into the municipality of Gjesdal. Prior to the merger Dirdal had a population of 833.

Geography:

Dirdal is situated in a valley surrounded by mountains. The village is located along the Dirdalsåna river, which flows into the Fossfjorden, a branch of the Høgsfjorden.

Economy:

Historically, agriculture and fishing were important industries in Dirdal. In more recent times, tourism has become increasingly significant.

Notable Features:

The village is known for its scenic natural surroundings and access to hiking trails. The Dirdalsåna river is also popular for fishing.
