Miyu Kato (tennis)
Miyu Kato (加藤 未唯, Katō Miyu, born November 21, 1994) is a professional tennis player from Japan. She primarily competes on the WTA Tour in both singles and doubles.
Kato has achieved a higher ranking of No. 123 in singles (reached April 2018) and No. 6 in doubles (reached May 2023). Her most significant success has come in doubles, where she has won multiple WTA titles.
Kato is known for her aggressive doubles game, often featuring strong net play. She has partnered with several different players, achieving notable results and building a reputation as a consistent doubles competitor.
In 2023, at the French Open, Kato was involved in a controversial incident during her women's doubles match. She accidentally hit a ball girl with a ball, leading to disqualification. The decision generated significant discussion and debate within the tennis community. However, she ultimately won the mixed doubles title at the same tournament, partnering with Tim Pütz.
