Dick Jones (baseball)
Dick Jones (born December 6, 1951) is a former professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a shortstop for the San Diego Padres (1975), Montreal Expos (1976-1977), and Oakland Athletics (1979).
Jones was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 1st round (12th overall) of the 1973 MLB June Amateur Draft. Prior to his professional career, he played college baseball at the University of Oklahoma.
During his MLB career, Jones was primarily known for his defensive abilities. He was considered a reliable fielder at shortstop. Offensively, he had a relatively limited impact, serving mostly as a role player.
After his playing career, Jones remained involved in baseball, working as a scout and coach for various organizations.
