Dan Kolov

Dan Kolov (Bulgarian: Дан Колов, born Doncho Koleff Danev, Дончо Колев Данев; 1892 – 1940) was a Bulgarian wrestler, professional wrestler, and martial artist. He is considered one of the most renowned wrestlers in Bulgarian history and a national hero.

Born in the village of Sennik, Sevlievo, Kolov emigrated to the United States in his youth. He began his wrestling career in the early 1900s, quickly gaining recognition for his exceptional strength and skill. He participated in numerous wrestling tournaments and circuses, earning significant victories and building a formidable reputation. Kolov was known for his signature move, the "Bulgarian Grip" (also referred to as a headscissors takedown).

Kolov traveled the world, competing against wrestlers from various countries and styles, and achieved considerable success. He is credited with promoting wrestling and athleticism in Bulgaria upon his return. He returned to Bulgaria in the 1930s and continued to be a celebrated figure. He participated in wrestling events and promoted physical culture.

Kolov died in 1940 from tuberculosis. His legacy continues to inspire generations of Bulgarian athletes and wrestlers. Numerous wrestling tournaments and sporting events are held in his honor. He remains a symbol of Bulgarian strength, national pride, and wrestling prowess.
