The Even Dozen Jug Band (album)

The Even Dozen Jug Band is the self-titled debut album by the American jug band, The Even Dozen Jug Band. It was released in 1964 on Elektra Records (EKL 265). The album is considered an important example of the folk music revival's exploration of jug band music and features notable musicians who would later achieve greater fame in the folk and rock genres.

The album consists primarily of traditional jug band and folk songs, as well as some original compositions. The members of the band contributed vocals, instrumental performances on a variety of instruments (including jug, kazoo, washboard, and more conventional instruments like guitars, mandolins, and banjos), and songwriting.

While the album was not a commercial success upon its initial release, it has gained a cult following over the years and is appreciated for its authentic and energetic performances, as well as its historical significance in the folk revival movement. The album showcases the early talents of musicians such as Maria Muldaur, John Sebastian (later of The Lovin' Spoonful), Steve Katz (later of Blood, Sweat & Tears), and Joshua Rifkin.
