Mood Six
Mood Six was a British neo-psychedelic band formed in London in 1982. Emerging from the mod revival scene, they distinguished themselves through their incorporation of 1960s psychedelic influences into their music. The band's sound was characterized by swirling organs, layered guitars, and evocative vocals, creating a dreamy and often melancholic atmosphere.
The original lineup consisted of Tony Rivers (vocals, guitar), Phil Ward (guitar), Andy Godfrey (bass), and John Goddard (drums). They were initially associated with the independent label Whaam! Records, releasing several singles and EPs before signing to Creation Records.
Mood Six's most well-known songs include "Hanging Around," "She's Coming Down," and "Plastic Flowers." These tracks showcased their signature sound and gained them a following within the alternative music scene.
The band released a few studio albums, including The Difference Is and Psychedelic Symphony, which further explored their psychedelic sound. While they achieved some critical acclaim, Mood Six never broke through to mainstream success.
After several lineup changes and shifts in musical direction, Mood Six eventually disbanded in the late 1980s. Despite their relatively short lifespan, they are remembered as a significant contributor to the neo-psychedelic movement and their music continues to be appreciated by fans of the genre. Tony Rivers has continued to be involved in music, including re-recordings of Mood Six material.
