Rodan (band)
Rodan was an American math rock band formed in Louisville, Kentucky in 1992. The band's lineup consisted of Jason Noble (guitar, vocals), Jeff Mueller (guitar, vocals), Tara Key (bass), and Kevin Coultas (drums). Known for their complex and angular guitar work, unconventional song structures, and intense live performances, Rodan became a significant influence on the development of math rock and post-hardcore.
Despite only releasing one studio album, Rusty (1994), Rodan gained a cult following within the independent music scene. Their sound incorporated elements of post-punk, noise rock, and hardcore, characterized by intricate, interlocking guitar riffs, dynamic shifts in tempo and volume, and impassioned vocals.
Rodan disbanded in 1995, but their music continued to resonate with musicians and fans. Members went on to other notable projects, including June of 44 (Mueller), Shipping News (Mueller), and Rachel's (Noble and Key).
In the years following their breakup, Rodan's influence has been widely acknowledged, with many bands citing them as a key inspiration. Rusty is often considered a seminal album in the math rock genre. The band briefly reunited for a series of shows in 2010 and 2011.
