Cuvier (crater)

Cuvier is a lunar impact crater located in the rugged southern highlands on the near side of the Moon. It lies to the southeast of the crater Buch, and southwest of the prominent crater Janssen. Due to its location, Cuvier appears foreshortened when viewed from Earth.

The rim of Cuvier is heavily eroded and somewhat irregular, with several small craters along its crest. The interior floor is relatively flat and featureless, lacking a central peak. There are also a few tiny craterlets scattered across the floor. The crater walls are somewhat terraced in places, suggesting past slumping.

Cuvier is of Nectarian age, meaning it formed during the Nectarian period, which spanned from approximately 3.92 to 3.85 billion years ago.
