Giant Dipper (Belmont Park)
The Giant Dipper is a historic wooden roller coaster located at Belmont Park in San Diego, California. It was originally built in 1925 by Arthur Looff, son of famed carousel builder Charles I.D. Looff. The ride is a classic example of a traditional out-and-back wooden coaster, known for its drops, turns, and airtime.
After falling into disrepair and ceasing operations in 1976, the Giant Dipper underwent a significant restoration project beginning in 1988. It was meticulously rebuilt using both original and new materials, preserving its historic design while incorporating modern safety features. The restored Giant Dipper reopened to the public in 1990 and continues to operate as a popular attraction at Belmont Park. It is recognized as a historical landmark and offers riders a thrilling experience that harkens back to the golden age of roller coasters.
