Cuffy (TV series)
Cuffy was a short-lived American situation comedy that aired on NBC from January to March 1976. The series centered on William "Cuffy" Cuff, a black police officer in Los Angeles who was also raising his three adopted children: two white children and one Asian child. The show was created by Ed Weinberger and Stan Daniels, who were also known for their work on The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
The series was notable for its premise of a black man adopting children of different races, which was considered progressive for its time. However, Cuffy was met with largely negative reviews, with critics citing weak writing and stereotypical characters. It struggled in the ratings and was cancelled after only six episodes. It has rarely, if ever, been seen in syndication since its initial broadcast.
The cast included Marshall Efron as Cuffy, with support from Lisabeth Hush, John David Carson, and Eusebio Davis. While aimed at a broad audience, Cuffy is often remembered for its controversial reception and short run.
