Claresholm (provincial electoral district)
Claresholm is a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada. It has been used under several different configurations throughout Alberta's history.
The current iteration of the district was created in 2017 when the province was divided into 87 single-member constituencies. It is largely a rural district located in southern Alberta, encompassing communities such as Claresholm, Nanton, Stavely, and Vulcan. It also includes a portion of Foothills County.
The electoral district is known for its strong agricultural base and conservative political leanings. Historically, the area has predominantly supported candidates from right-of-centre parties.
The boundaries of the Claresholm electoral district have been adjusted periodically to reflect population changes and ensure fair representation. The current boundaries were established in advance of the 2019 Alberta general election.
Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) elected to represent Claresholm have played a role in shaping provincial legislation and representing the interests of the constituents within the riding. The issues important to the Claresholm riding often include agriculture, resource development, and rural infrastructure.
