Loffre

Loffre, understood primarily in the context of the online game World of Warcraft, refers to a portmanteau of "Loot" and "Offline." It describes the situation where a player logs out of the game (goes offline) before distributing loot obtained from a raid, dungeon, or other group activity. This is generally considered a breach of etiquette and can lead to negative repercussions within the player's guild or community.

The consequences of "loffing" can vary. At minimum, it creates inconvenience for the remaining group members, delaying the distribution of loot until the player returns. In more serious cases, particularly if the player was responsible for loot management or leadership, it can lead to accusations of ninja looting (intentionally taking loot that should have gone to another player), mistrust, and even expulsion from the guild.

The act of loffing highlights the importance of communication and responsibility within online gaming communities. Players are generally expected to remain online and present until all loot has been distributed fairly and according to agreed-upon rules. Modern versions of World of Warcraft have implemented systems, such as group loot trading, to mitigate the impact of accidental disconnections or scheduling conflicts, but the term "loffing" persists as a reminder of the potential for disruptive behavior.
