Alun Davies (politician)
Alun Davies (born 1964) is a Welsh Labour politician who served as a Member of the Senedd (MS) for Blaenau Gwent from 2011 to 2021.
Born in Tredegar, Davies was educated at Brynmawr Comprehensive School and later at the University of Glamorgan, where he studied public administration. Before entering politics, he worked in various roles in the voluntary sector, including as director of a community regeneration project.
Davies was first elected to the Senedd in 2011, succeeding Trish Law as the MS for Blaenau Gwent. He served on various committees, including the Environment and Sustainability Committee and the Public Accounts Committee. He also held several ministerial positions in the Welsh Government, including Minister for Natural Resources and Minister for Lifelong Learning and Skills.
During his time as Minister for Natural Resources, Davies oversaw the implementation of the Welsh Government's policies on environmental protection and sustainable development. As Minister for Lifelong Learning and Skills, he was responsible for further education, apprenticeships, and skills development.
Davies lost his seat in the 2021 Senedd election to Peredur Owen Griffiths of Plaid Cymru. Since leaving the Senedd, he has remained involved in public life and has written and commented on Welsh politics.
