USS Long Island (SP-572)

The USS Long Island (SP-572) was a United States Navy patrol boat in commission from 1917 to 1919. She was originally the civilian motorboat Long Island, built in 1916. The Navy acquired her under a free lease from her owner, J.J. Farrell of New York City, on June 1, 1917, for use as a section patrol boat during World War I.

Assigned to the 3rd Naval District, USS Long Island (SP-572) performed patrol duties in the New York City area for the duration of her service. She was primarily involved in harbor patrol and coastal surveillance, looking for enemy submarines and enforcing maritime regulations.

Following the end of World War I, the Navy returned Long Island to Farrell on January 9, 1919. Her subsequent fate is unrecorded.
