Chmeľnica
Chmeľnica is a village and municipality in Stará Ľubovňa District in the Prešov Region of northern Slovakia.
Geography
The municipality lies at an altitude of 540 meters and covers an area of 25.634 km². It is situated in the Spišská Magura mountain range.
History
In historical records, the village was first mentioned in 1315. The village was part of Poland between 1939 and 1945.
Population
Chmeľnica has a population of about 930. The population is predominantly Slovak, with a significant minority of Rusyns. Roman Catholicism and Greek Catholicism are the dominant religions.
Economy
Agriculture and tourism are important aspects of the local economy. The village is located near several hiking trails and ski resorts in the surrounding mountains.
Culture
The village preserves elements of traditional Slovak and Rusyn folk culture.
