Charles Tyrrell (artist)
Charles Tyrrell (born 1950) is an Irish abstract artist working primarily in painting.
Tyrrell was born in Birr, County Offaly, Ireland. He studied at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin from 1969 to 1973.
His work is characterized by bold, geometric forms and a strong emphasis on colour. He often works in series, exploring variations on a theme or particular colour palette. His paintings often involve layering and masking techniques, resulting in textured surfaces and complex compositions.
Tyrrell has exhibited extensively throughout Ireland and internationally, including solo shows at the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), Dublin, and the Kerlin Gallery, Dublin. His work is held in numerous public and private collections, including the Arts Council of Ireland, the National Gallery of Ireland, and the Ulster Museum.
He lives and works in County Wexford, Ireland.
