Chalcodon

Chalcodon (pronounced kal-koh-don) is a relatively obscure figure in Greek mythology. Accounts of Chalcodon vary, and his role is often linked to the region of Euboea. Generally, he is described as a hero or king associated with Euboea and/or Chalkis.

Several different narratives exist concerning Chalcodon. Some versions portray him as a son of Aegyptus and Argyphia, therefore one of the Aegyptiads. These stories often focus on the Danaids and Aegyptiads, and the infamous mass wedding and subsequent murders.

In other accounts, Chalcodon is linked to the founding or ruling of Chalkis. The details surrounding his reign and contributions, if any, are frequently lacking or inconsistent across different mythological sources.

Due to the limited and sometimes contradictory information available about Chalcodon, his precise role and significance in Greek mythology remain uncertain. He is not a central or widely known character compared to figures like Heracles or Odysseus, and his stories appear in relatively few surviving ancient texts.
