Falling Creek (James River tributary)
Falling Creek is a tributary of the James River located in Chesterfield County, Virginia, United States. It originates in the western portion of the county and flows generally eastward, eventually emptying into the James River near the community of Falling Creek.
Historically, Falling Creek was the site of an early ironworks established in 1619, considered to be the first in North America. This ironworks was destroyed in the Indian Massacre of 1622.
The creek's watershed is primarily suburban and industrial, reflecting the development of Chesterfield County. Environmental concerns surrounding the creek often include water quality issues related to stormwater runoff and industrial discharge. Several parks and recreational areas are located along or near Falling Creek, providing opportunities for outdoor activities. The creek also serves as a habitat for various aquatic species.
