Caussols

Caussols is a plateau located in the Alpes-Maritimes department in southeastern France. It is part of the Préalpes d'Azur Regional Natural Park.

Geography: The Caussols plateau is characterized by its karstic landscape, a terrain shaped by the dissolution of soluble rocks such as limestone. This process creates distinctive features like sinkholes (avens), underground caves, and sculpted rock formations. The altitude of the plateau ranges from approximately 900 to 1400 meters.

Geology: The underlying geology of Caussols is primarily limestone, deposited during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. The solubility of this limestone is responsible for the unique karstic features found throughout the plateau.

Flora and Fauna: The Caussols plateau supports a diverse range of flora and fauna adapted to the harsh conditions of the environment. Common plant species include various types of shrubs, grasses, and wildflowers. The fauna includes birds of prey, reptiles, insects, and small mammals.
