Geoffrey Allen (bishop)

Geoffrey Francis Allen (1902-1982) was an Anglican bishop and theologian. He served as the Bishop of Derby from 1959 to 1969.

Born in 1902, Allen was educated at the University of Oxford. He was ordained as a priest in 1928. Before his appointment as Bishop of Derby, he held various academic positions, including Warden of St Deiniol's Library, Hawarden, and Principal of Ripon College, Cuddesdon.

As Bishop of Derby, Allen was known for his commitment to social justice and his efforts to bridge the gap between the church and the industrial communities of Derbyshire. He was also a respected theological scholar, known for his writings on Christian ethics and the relationship between faith and reason. He retired in 1969 and died in 1982.
