Nidingr (band)
Nidingr is a Norwegian black metal band formed in 1996 in Bergen. The band is known for its experimental and avant-garde approach to black metal, incorporating elements of progressive metal, jazz, and classical music into their sound.
The band was founded by guitarist Teloch (also known for his work with Mayhem, Gorgoroth, and God Seed), and vocalist and lyricist Sardonic Wrath. Over the years, Nidingr's lineup has included several notable figures from the Norwegian black metal scene.
Nidingr's lyrical themes often delve into Norse mythology, occultism, philosophy, and misanthropy. Their music is characterized by complex arrangements, dissonant harmonies, and a raw, aggressive sound, often featuring blast beats and tremolo picking typical of black metal.
The band has released several studio albums through various labels, including Season of Mist. Their discography showcases a consistent evolution in their sound, pushing the boundaries of traditional black metal while maintaining a distinctly dark and unsettling atmosphere. They are considered a significant contributor to the avant-garde black metal scene.
