Carlos Martins (footballer)
Carlos Martins (born April 29, 1982) is a Portuguese former professional footballer who played primarily as a central midfielder.
Career:
Martins began his professional career with Sporting CP, graduating from their youth academy. He also had loan spells with Campomaiorense and Académica de Coimbra before establishing himself in Sporting's first team.
In 2007, Martins moved to English Premier League side Portsmouth. After a season in England, he returned to Spain, joining Recreativo de Huelva on loan.
Martins subsequently signed with Benfica in 2008. He spent several seasons with Benfica, enjoying success domestically. He also had a loan spell with Granada in Spain.
International Career:
Martins represented Portugal at various youth levels before making his debut for the senior national team. He earned multiple caps for Portugal and participated in major international tournaments, including the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Playing Style:
Martins was known for his technical ability, passing range, and vision. He was a versatile midfielder capable of playing in different roles.
