Calico (board game)
Calico is a tile-laying board game designed by Kevin Russ, and published by Flatout Games in 2019. The game focuses on creating a visually appealing and strategically beneficial quilt.
In Calico, players collect and place hexagonal quilt tiles onto their personal quilt boards. Each tile features a combination of color and pattern. Players score points by fulfilling three objectives: attracting cats to the quilt by matching pattern requirements, sewing buttons by collecting sets of matching colors, and completing design goals which award points based on specific color and pattern arrangements.
The game features varying difficulty levels through the use of different design goals. It is generally considered a light-to-medium weight game suitable for families and experienced board game players alike. The engine is straightforward, but optimizing tile placement for multiple scoring opportunities presents a strategic challenge. Calico supports 1-4 players and typically lasts 30-45 minutes.
