Lucky Stiff (2014 film)
Lucky Stiff is a 2014 British-American musical comedy film directed by Christopher Ashley, based on the 1988 musical of the same name by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. The film stars Dominic Marsh as Arthur Kipps, a mild-mannered shoe salesman who inherits six million dollars from his American uncle, Anthony Hendon, with the unusual stipulation that he must take the corpse on a week-long vacation to Monte Carlo.
If Arthur fails to fulfill the terms of the will, the money will go to the Universal Dog Home of Brooklyn, or to Annabel Glick (Nikki M. James), Anthony's obsessive, nearsighted and gun-toting fiancé. Chaos ensues as Arthur attempts to adhere to the bizarre conditions of the inheritance while evading Annabel and battling mistaken identity issues with a mysterious Frenchman, Luigi Gaudi (Don Amendolia), who believes Arthur is responsible for his brother's death.
The film largely retains the stage musical's score. Lucky Stiff was filmed in Italy, Monaco and New York. It received mixed reviews upon release, with some praising the performances and musical numbers, while others criticized the film's tone and adaptation from stage to screen.
