Breathe Easy (film)
Breathe Easy is a 1982 American made-for-television drama film directed by Jack Hofsiss and starring Cliff De Young, Season Hubley, and Michael Ansara. The film explores themes of environmental pollution and its impact on individuals and a community.
The plot centers around Dan Lipton (De Young), a factory worker who develops a debilitating respiratory illness due to toxic emissions from the local chemical plant where he is employed. As his condition worsens, he becomes increasingly aware of the dangers posed by the plant's operations and the company's negligence. He subsequently decides to take action, facing resistance from his employers and some members of the community who rely on the plant for their livelihoods.
Hubley plays Dan's wife, Ellen, who supports him through his illness and his fight for environmental justice. Ansara portrays the owner of the chemical plant, depicting a man primarily concerned with profits and reluctant to acknowledge or address the environmental and health problems caused by his business.
Breathe Easy aims to raise awareness about the consequences of industrial pollution and the importance of corporate responsibility. It portrays the personal struggles of those affected by environmental hazards and the challenges they face when seeking justice. The film was part of a wave of television movies in the early 1980s that addressed social and environmental issues.
