Boso (cardinal of Santa Pudenziana)
Boso (died c. 1178) was an Italian cardinal and papal chamberlain during the pontificate of Pope Adrian IV and Pope Alexander III. He held the title of Cardinal-Deacon of Santi Cosma e Damiano from approximately 1155 to 1165, and later became Cardinal-Priest of Santa Pudenziana, a position he held until his death.
Boso served as papal chamberlain, a significant administrative role in the Papal Curia, from 1159 until his death. He was a staunch supporter of Pope Alexander III during the schism caused by the election of antipope Victor IV and his successors. He participated in several papal elections, including that of Alexander III in 1159. His duties as chamberlain involved managing the papal finances and overseeing the papal household.
Details of Boso's early life and origins are scarce. His career demonstrates the influence and administrative importance held by cardinals during the 12th century, particularly those involved in the papal administration. His long tenure and consistent support of the legitimate papal claimant highlight his significance during a turbulent period in papal history.
