Border and Migration Police (Albania)

The Border and Migration Police (Albania) is a specialized law enforcement agency within the Albanian State Police responsible for safeguarding the country's borders, managing migration flows, and combating cross-border crime. Its primary functions include: border surveillance and control, prevention and detection of illegal border crossings, combating human trafficking and migrant smuggling, enforcing immigration laws, managing refugee and asylum seeker flows, and international cooperation with other border security agencies.

The agency operates at all official border crossing points (land, sea, and air) and patrols the "green" and "blue" borders (land and maritime areas between official crossing points). It works closely with other Albanian law enforcement agencies, such as the General Police Directorate, as well as international organizations like Frontex (the European Border and Coast Guard Agency) and Interpol.

The Border and Migration Police plays a critical role in Albania's efforts to meet Schengen Area standards for border security and migration management as part of its European Union accession process.
