D5 motorway (Czech Republic)

The D5 motorway is a major motorway in the Czech Republic, connecting Prague to Plzeň and ultimately the German border near Rozvadov. It forms part of the European route E50. The motorway is approximately 151 kilometers (94 miles) long.

The D5 is a four-lane motorway for most of its length, with two lanes in each direction and a hard shoulder. It is a vital transportation artery for both passenger and freight traffic, facilitating trade and travel between the Czech Republic and Germany, as well as connecting Prague with the western regions of the Czech Republic.

Construction of the D5 began in the 1970s, with the first sections opening in the 1990s. The final sections were completed in the early 2000s. The motorway has significantly improved travel times and reduced traffic congestion on previously used roads.

The D5 features numerous service areas and rest stops along its route, providing amenities for travelers. Tolls are required for vehicles exceeding 3.5 tonnes in weight.
