Bolina is a nautical term that refers to a side wind or a wind blowing at an angle from the side of a sailing vessel. Sailing "on a bolina" means sailing with a wind that is not directly behind or ahead but coming from one side. The term is less precise than other nautical terms describing wind direction (such as "beam reach," "close-hauled," etc.) and can be somewhat archaic in modern usage.
