Ron English (American football)
Ron English (born February 8, 1968) is an American football coach. He is currently the defensive coordinator at Purdue University.
English played college football as a safety at the University of California, Berkeley, from 1986 to 1990.
His coaching career began as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, California, in 1991. He subsequently held coaching positions at Northern Arizona University (1992-1993), San Diego State University (1994-1997), Arizona State University (1998-2002), and the University of Michigan (2003-2005).
English served as the defensive coordinator at the University of Michigan from 2006 to 2007 under head coach Lloyd Carr and then continued in that role under head coach Rich Rodriguez in 2008.
He was the head football coach at Eastern Michigan University from 2009 to 2013.
Following his tenure at Eastern Michigan, English served as the safeties coach for the Chicago Bears (2014), defensive coordinator at Mississippi State University (2016), and safeties coach at the University of Texas at Austin (2017-2018). He then served as the defensive coordinator at Florida (2018-2019) and Arizona (2021-2022). He joined Purdue University as the defensive coordinator in 2023.
