Bob Smith (pitcher, born 1928)

Bob Smith (born August 14, 1928, in Roswell, New Mexico, died January 14, 2019, in Carlsbad, New Mexico) was an American professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Boston Red Sox (1951), Philadelphia Athletics (1953), and Baltimore Orioles (1954).

Smith was a right-handed pitcher. He attended Texas Western College (now the University of Texas at El Paso). In his MLB career, he appeared in 22 games, pitching 58 2/3 innings. He compiled a record of 1-4 with a 5.37 earned run average (ERA). His lone major league win came on September 16, 1951, against the Washington Senators.

Prior to his major league career, Smith played in the minor leagues, beginning in 1948. After his MLB career concluded, he continued to play in the minor leagues until 1956.

Smith was inducted into the El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame in 2004.
