Bill Barwick (athlete)

Bill Barwick is a retired Australian rules footballer who played for the St Kilda Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and the Sydney Swans in the Australian Football League (AFL).

Barwick was recruited to St Kilda from the Sandringham Football Club in the Victorian Football Association (VFA). He made his debut for St Kilda in 1974 and quickly established himself as a reliable key defender. He was known for his strong marking and spoiling ability. He played 121 games for St Kilda between 1974 and 1980.

In 1981, Barwick was traded to the Sydney Swans, who were then based at South Melbourne. He played 40 games for the Swans over two seasons, providing valuable experience to a young team. He retired from AFL football at the end of the 1982 season.

After his playing career, Barwick remained involved in football, serving in various coaching and administrative roles at local level. He is remembered as a solid and dependable player who contributed significantly to both St Kilda and Sydney during his time in the VFL/AFL.
