Sivuca

Sivuca was a Brazilian accordionist, composer, and singer. Born Severino Dias de Oliveira (June 6, 1930 – December 14, 2006) in Itabaiana, Paraíba, Brazil, Sivuca was a highly influential figure in Brazilian popular music (MPB) and choro. He was renowned for his virtuosic accordion playing, blending traditional Brazilian rhythms like baião and forró with jazz harmonies and classical techniques.

Sivuca's early musical career began with radio performances and regional bands. He gained wider recognition in the 1950s and 1960s, performing and recording with various artists. He spent significant periods in Europe and the United States, collaborating with international musicians and exploring different musical styles. His international experience broadened his musical palette and influenced his compositions.

Sivuca's compositions often incorporated elements of Brazilian folk music, jazz improvisation, and classical arrangements.
