Kepler-6

Kepler-6 is a star located in the constellation Lyra, approximately 2,000 light-years away from Earth. It is a G-type star, meaning it's similar in temperature and color to our Sun. Kepler-6 is slightly larger and more massive than the Sun, and also somewhat older.

The star gained significance due to the discovery of Kepler-6b, an extrasolar planet orbiting it. Kepler-6b was one of the first exoplanets discovered by NASA's Kepler mission, a space telescope designed to detect planets by observing the slight dimming of a star's light as a planet passes in front of it (a transit).

Kepler-6b is classified as a hot Jupiter, a gas giant planet similar in size to Jupiter but with a very short orbital period, placing it extremely close to its host star. This close proximity results in very high temperatures on the planet. The discovery of Kepler-6b contributed significantly to the understanding of the diversity of exoplanetary systems and the prevalence of hot Jupiters around other stars. The Kepler mission's observations of Kepler-6 and Kepler-6b have been used to study the planet's size, mass, and orbital characteristics.
