Beyond the Law (2019 film)

Beyond the Law is a 2019 American action thriller film directed by James Cullen Bressack. The film stars Steven Seagal, Johnny Messner, DMX, and Bill Cobbs. It centers on a former detective who seeks revenge after his son is murdered.

The plot follows Frank Wilson (Johnny Messner), a former police detective whose estranged son, Dustin, is killed during a drug deal gone wrong. Frank investigates the circumstances surrounding his son's death, leading him to a dangerous web of corruption involving local criminals and dirty cops. He discovers that a powerful and ruthless crime boss named Desmond Packard (Steven Seagal) is at the center of it all.

Driven by vengeance, Frank takes the law into his own hands, using his skills and experience to dismantle Packard's organization and bring those responsible for his son's death to justice. The film features numerous action sequences, including gunfights, hand-to-hand combat, and car chases. DMX plays Detective Ray Munce, an officer investigating the case alongside Frank, and eventually becoming an ally. Bill Cobbs portrays a supporting character with connections to Frank's past.

The film was released in select theaters and video-on-demand on December 6, 2019. It received generally negative reviews, with critics citing its predictable plot, low-budget production values, and over-the-top action sequences.
